Dear diving friends
write these news letters at irregular intervals to let you know whats happening at our diving centres. There's usually something to tell you about every 3 weeks or so.and I spend a lot of time considering what you will find interesting. Now that I've written them a few times, I think I'm getting the hang of it. Some of my comments might seem sarcastic but I don't mean unkindly. Werner Lau Red Sea |

Spring is coming to the Red Sea.
The water is still a bit chilly, but with a 6mm wetsuit it's easily tolerable. And, it gets warmer day by day. To help make the first dive of the new diving year even more inviting, we are continuing to offer our "buddy weeks. In addition to that, as of now, we are also (finally) situated in Marsa Alam. The hotel is "The Oasis" and I think it is the nicest diving hotel in the Red Sea. Take a look at the website! |

Boot Fair 2007 We would like to thank you all for the numerous visitors!
As in previous years, we were also present at the Boat Trade Fair. In the same spot as always - Hall 3, Stall B16. We had a lot to do and also a lot of fun. A clear trend towards Bali could be seen. Great diving at a resonable price in good diving hotels and, what was also obvious, wellness is more in demand than ever before! Our free massage was well received. Our new diving centre in "The Oasis" in Marsa Alam was also a cause of much approval. Thnaks to you, we were able to bid our diving centres in the Maldives a spectacular farewell by the annual "Tauchen Awards" for the best diving centres!
1st Place Eriyadu 2nd Place Vilamendhoo 4th Place Filitheyo Düde received 5th Place with our centre in Pondok Sari in Bali in the categorie "best diving centre in south-east Asia / Pacific.. We would like to thank all those who voted for us! And, I would like to thank my colleagues in the diving centres! Here, our personal photos of the Boot Fair, taken by Franz Apfelböck. Boot Fair photos
Hope you enjoy them ! Marc reports from the Red Sea as follows:
''The water temperate is really quite comfortable. The air temperature
is a summery 26° during the day. By 23° in the evening, we need a sweatshirt
...unlike most of the guests. However, since we are used to the summer temperatures here, the 23° seems quite frosty to us....
Many of our staff are on holiday at the moment, some are visiting our diving centre in Bali, others are skiing in Germany.
They will all be back in time for our first high season at Easter. Marc" Lieber Marc: Thank You for the News - please a little bit more next time...

Tauchen :
At Ras Mohammed and on the reefs at Tiran we don't just have super soft corals in lots of colors but also because it is a Nature reserve (Fishing not allowed) the fish population has been increasing steadily for years. Not just passing predators such as mackerels visit here in large shoals but also shoals of permanent residents such as hump snapper can also be marvelled at. Of course, with such a large offer of food sharks of all kinds can also be seen. |

Helnan Marina:
There is no special news from Helnan Marina at the moment. Every day we go out from here to the great reefs in the Sinai. Due to the unbeatable location of the centre directly on the jetty, we are practically the first boats out every day so we get to the reefs "before the others" - an invaluable advantage. Our webcam is installiert in our main centre. We will be trying out a several different positions in the next few days. Which would you prefer: a view of the centre or out into the bay? Please send any feedback directly to me at : werner@wernerlau.com |

Grand Oasis:
Cristina and her crew have improved the inside of the centre. Looks good - don't you think? Diving beginners, who have their first lesson in the pool now appreciate that the diving pool is heated. The sea water is notably warmer than in unheated pools. We have also built this comfortable seating corner. |

Grand Azure:
We left the diving centre in Grand Azur on the 30th November. As the centre has no entrance to the reef it makes no sense in the long run. Of course, guests in this family friendly hotel will still be able to dive with us. We offer daily complimentary transfers from this as from all other hotels in Sharm. In practise, nothing has changed for guests from the Grand Azur who wish to dive with us. Simply ring Helnan Marina +20 69 3600456 or Grand Oasis +20 693603945 and we will pick you up. |

Taba : in the Morgana Beach Resort
Dorthe and Henrik, our Danish managers report: "Newsletter Taba, February 2007. In regards to diving we are able to report that many of our guests have been able to get some great shots on the house reef with their photo equipment recently (see photos attached from the Spanish Dancer and the turtle). During this time we have also seen octopi, lots of moray eels, our house turtle and different type of see needles almost every day. In addition to that, various guests have often had the pleasure of seeing frog fish with Dorthe. We don't get to see everything on every dive, but we keep looking… Just as we love discovering new fish, we also love to discover new diving spots. In December, Petzi and Henrik made a test run to the new diving spots by Ras Mamla - it was great!! Which is why, as from now, we will be making trips to Ras Mamla. And what can be seen there? Hmm, I'll try to describe it…. Ras Mamla is like the "Straits of Tiran", only, 10 years ago. The starts directly from the beach - 20m from the beach is the drop off, which goes 6-700m straight down. In addition to that, there is a cave, which goes from the surface more than 100m down in the reef. The walls are wonderfully overgrown with large fan and soft corals. Even in winter, there was lots to see here, with large shoals of fish, etc. It will probably be even better in Spring when there will also be a chance of seeing leopard sharks and other pelagic fish. The "Winter" only lasted a couple of days here, and now, at the beginning of February the sun shines again every day - the warmer days are coming, great!!. And, in addition to that, the water temperature is already starting to rise from the 22° we have now.. Dorthe & Henrik Jensen" OK. Thanks for the News. Please send us a sketch and a description of the reef from Ras Mamla. We will put in online. Like the "Straits of Tiran" for 10 years? - they are still world class today! But, you have definitely whet my appeitite!! |

Marsa Alam 'The Oasis':
At the time the News went online, Rudi and Monika, our centre managers, were on a plane, on their way to Marsa Alam. The will be reporting from there as from the next News. I will be flying down myself on the 10th Feb. to have a look. The Oasis will be the new Culthotel for divers in the south. I would never have believed that I would like a hotel in Egypt so much. See for yourself ! |
