Description

Medhufushi lies to the east of the Meemu-Atoll, which is 300 km south of Male. The island is 900 metres long and about 90 metres wide. There are only two tourist islands in the whole of this atoll. Medhufushi features an exceptionally beautiful lagoon which is ideal for learning to dive in -not to mention swimming, surfing and sailing. The virtually untouched diving sites, most of them suitable even for beginners, await you with a stunning diversity of corals and tropical fish.

This elongated island is surrounded by dazzling white beaches and greatest care has been taken to develop it with as little disturbance as possible to the environment. You will find plenty of welcoming shade among the untouched tropical vegetation including palm trees, rubber plants, mangroves, and scaevola trees.

 

 

Accommodation

The island hosts a total of 120 single or double bungalows, including water bungalows. They are spaciously situated around the island, leaving plenty of breathing space for your own privacy. Each of these bungalows is built to 5 star standards, has its own entrance to the beach and enjoys a beautiful view of the blue lagoon, yet due to the undisturbed tropical vegetation, is virtually out of sight to those approaching the island.

The air-conditioned rooms are comfortably and elegantly furnished, each with its own terrace. They all feature a mini-bar, telephone, TV, stereo unit, desalinated warm and cold water. Our guests are usually enchanted by the half open bathroom which is almost as large as the bedroom!

44 water-bungalows have been built on stilts around the south side of the island. They offer the utmost in luxury, the interior being fitted out in solid teak (a feature in all the bungalows) and include a sun-deck with stairs leading straight into the lagoon, what more could you wish for?

Wining and Dining

Brian Logan is our head Chef on Medhufushi (he has already shown his skills on Filitheyo), He and his team are responsible for the delicious choice of freshly cooked local and international dishes which await you daily on this island, really excellent buffets even by international comparison.

The restaurant on Medhufushi will tempt you with a good variety of fresh meat and poultry dishes, grilled meats and fish, seafood, pasta, fresh salads and tropical fruit dishes not to mention the international deserts trolley which is always available.

You may prefer to eat at the beach barbecues and buffets with Maldivian specialities which take place regularly. The coffee shop also offers a selection of food and drink á la carte, so you can choose between half and full board, whichever you prefer.

If you like to end your day with a cool drink you might like to visit our beach bar, where you can relax while watching the beautiful sunsets. They offer a good choice of cocktails, beers, fruit juices, wines and non-alcoholic drinks.

You may prefer to enjoy your drink in solitude on the beach, enjoying the cool sea breeze and the starlit skies.

Leisure and sport facilities

A holiday on Medhufushi is ideal for those who seek relaxation in luxurious surroundings with an international atmosphere.
It is ideal for those who wish to learn to dive, enjoy swimming and want to experience the breath-taking beauty of the local diving spots.
If this is not enough the island can offer more.

Our guests can use our modern air-conditioned fitness-centre whenever they wish, or they can choose from one of the other games and sports facilities such as table-tennis, badminton, billiards, volleyball, chess, darts and the local game of carrom among other things.

There will be opportunity to view folklore evenings which will include Bodu Beru or a magician or fire swallower, now and again a disco.
Medhufushi is mainly a peaceful oasis for relaxing, particularly for divers and those who enjoy water sports.

There is a surfing and sailing school on the island.
