MY Sheena Logbook 06. – 13.05.2018

Guest arrival and departure.

This is the last diving trip before Sheena goes to the dock for annual service and repair.

06.05.2018

We had all five guests requesting for whale shark. So as soon as guests arrive to Sheena, we started the trip to south Ari atoll and arrived late in the afternoon. On the way we found lots of spinner dolphins who followed Sheena for some minutes. Guest had good time taking photos of them. We searched for the whale shark for snorkeling, but no luck till sunset.

Dive 1 Kudarah Thila

Dive 2 Ari Beach Beru

Dive 3 Allimatha House Reef (Nightdive)

First dive of the trip we made at Kudarah Thila. This was a mild incoming current with low visibility. We started the dive right at the current split and could see a couple of grey reef sharks and white tip reef sharks at the very beginning of the dive. As always we had the massive school of blue line snappers and bump head snappers. It was great to go through the overhangs and swim throughs, as well as swimming around the coral blocks and the top reef was simply awesome.

Right after the first dive, we started searching for the whale shark. We just finish breakfast and a whale shark appeared. No time to waste and we jumped for a good snorkeling with the gentle giant.

On the way to second dive, we found the whale shark again swimming slowly along the reef edge. So we jumped and had a perfect view of the shark swimming towards us and then it left. Along the reef were hawksbill turtles, napoleons, a stingray resting on the bottom of the reef. A small group of five white tip reef sharks were at the bottom of the reef and then another big whale shark came from the depth. This was so amazing.

Right after the second dive we head towards Alimatha for the night dive. Again we saw a huge school of dolphins on the way to Alimatha.

Night dive was crazy good. There were more than fifty nurse sharks, plenty of stingrays and lots of jack fishes on the hunt for food. This was a perfect night dive at Alimatha dive site.

As we came back from the dive to Sheena, we had two nurse sharks behind the boat for about an hour. What a beautiful day!

Dive 1 Miyaru Kandu

Dive 2 Golden Wall

Dive 3 Fottheyo

Morning first dive at Miyaru Kandu was with a mild incoming current. Visibility was limited. We had couple of white tip reef sharks at the beginning, big tunas were hunting the school of fusiliers, at the other end of the channel edge we met the school of more than 10 grey reef sharks, there were all sizes of sharks, babies, adults and some really fat ones. As we left the edge and continued the dive along the reef, we met some more white tip reef sharks, some moray eels, a turtle, a sting ray and more.

Second dive at Golden Wall, current was a bit more than medium in. Dive began with some white tip reef sharks, three grey reef sharks and a school of yellow fin barracudas. Nice coral blocks full of soft coral were home to many snappers and soldier fishes. Drifting along the wall was cool to see so much yellow soft corals. At the end we had a turtle busy eating sponges.

Last dive was at Fottheyo. As always we had fun exploring the massive overhangs and swimthroughs full of large soft corals hanging from the ceiling. We had three eagle rays, two grey reef sharks and two white tip reef sharks, napoleons and a big school of jacks.

Dive 1 Fottheyo

Dive 2 Rakeedhoo Kandu

Dive 3 Happy Corner

We spend about 30 minutes in the blue in fornt of Fottheyo, waiting for the hammerhead sharks and it was no luck time, though we found a massive Waahoo passing in the big blue. Later on the reef there were couple of eagle rays, some white tip reef sharks and grey reef sharks. A huge school of jacks and a lot of fusiliers at the thila front.

Second dive at Rakeedhoo Kandu was with medium to strong out going current. At first we met a huge Napoleon, some white tip reef sharks and then at the channel corner, there were plenty of white tips and grey reef sharks, Barracudas, school of jacks, eagle rays, a big silver tip shark and even a Manta ray passing. On our way to finish the dive we met couple of hawksbill turtles, and another napoleon. This was just an awesomely great dive.

Then we cruise to Meemu atoll for Happy Corner. On the way we saw many dolphins playing and jumping around. So we had a stop taking pictures and enjoying the show.

Happy corner with outgoing current, there were a handful of grey reef sharks, an eagle ray, we swam right into the school of barracudas and big-eyed trevallies.

Dive 1 White Tip Station

Dive 2 Happy Corner

Dive 3 Mantas & More

First dive at White Tip Station was with a medium to strong out going current. We were quite lucky to see a couple of grey reef sharks, a white tip shark and plenty of barracudas and jack fishes even with a limited visibility, and a huge Oceanic Manta at the very end of the dive.

Happy Corner with some incoming current was so good with a lot of sharks. This was a very happy dive at the Happy Corner.

Mantas and More was with no manta but we had many more like sharks, eagle ray, many turtles, baby white tips, napoleons. The whole reef was full of tiny little glass fishes and hundreds of emperors, snappers and blue fin jack fishes were hunting on the glass fishes.

After this dive we had some happy time at happy hour in Medhufushi Resort.

Dive 1 Mantas and more

Dive 2 Simply the Best

Dive 3 Divers Paradise

Dive 4 Fenbo Housereef

Mantas and More again was still amazing, a huge school of bump head snappers, many sweet lips and along the reef were grey reef sharks, white tips, and so many other fishes. At the end of the dive we were lucky to find one manta passing in the blue.

Now we decided to change the taste a little bit. So went for an easy chilled giri dive inside the atoll. Simply the Best was with clear visibility and plenty of black corals, beautiful garden of hard corals on the top reef. Amazing overhangs, a school of snappers and one baby eagle ray just hovering at the reef front. We found two beautiful nude branches and a mantis shrimp getting in and out of its hole.

Divers Paradise was with a medium outgoing current which we did not expect. But we still had a good dive with a huge school of big eyed trevallies, an eagle ray, small school of big barracudas, an octopus on the reef and a hawksbill turtle at the safety stop.

Fourth dive was a Night dive at Fenboa Finolhu house reef. Just at the very beginning was a sleepy turtle, and some parrot fishes, two Nurse sharks were a bit active, many different kinds of shrimps and a small lobster on the hunt.

At Kingdom of Fish we had many tunas, napoleons, stingray, white tip reef sharks and as always a massive school of fusiliers.

Last dive at Western Highlight with perfect current, we found many grey reef sharks, white tips, napoleons, a school of barracuda and a friendly group of seven eagle rays including a baby.
