MANTA SUCHE/IN SEARCH OF MANTAS

Da Wir uns aufgrund des Jahreszeitenwechsels an „Mantas und More“ nur noch selten an Manta Sichtungen erfreuen können und die Nachfrage Gross ist entschlossen Wir uns gemeinsam mit den Gästen es zu wagen und planten einen Full day trip in den Süden.

As sightings of mantas are becoming less likely at favourite site “Mantas & More”, due to the change in season, we decided to try out a full day trip to the southern region of the atoll to see if we had any luck finding them there….

Auf zu „Valley oft he Ray“… Nach einer ca. Zweistündigen Anfahrt kamen Wir am Kurali Kanal an. Bei einer leichten auslaufenden Strömung und einer guten Portion Plankton ließ das Glück auch nicht lange auf sich warten. Nach 15 Minuten Tauchzeit an der Südlichen Putzerstation flog der erste Manta über unseren Köpfen vorbei:D. Gefolgt von einigen Stechrochen , Napoleon und einer Schildkröte nach 55minuten, beinahe schon auf dem Weg zum Sicherheitsstop kam die Überraschung von Unten. Ein 2 bis 3 Meter Manta auf dem Weg zu der Putzerstation an der Wir gerade glücklicherweise auf ihn warteten. Entspannt zog er seine Runden über unseren Köpfen um die Putzerstation herum :D:D

So it’s off to the “Valley of the Ray”… and after approx. two hours, we finally arrived at Kurali channel. Conditions are perfect: slight outgoing current and plankton-rich water. We don´t have to wait very long for the first of the majestic giants to arrive. 15 minutes into the dive, a manta passed directly above us at the southernmost cleaning station :D. Blotch stingrays, an eagle ray, Napoleon & a turtle followed soon behind. In the final moments of the dive, while doing our safety stop, we were taken by surprise from below… this time a larger manta, measuring approx. 3m in wing span, who decided to circle around us until time & low air pressure in our tanks sent us back to the surface :>>

Die Freude war Gross auf dem Boot und Wir entschieden es noch einmal beim zweiten Tauchgang zu versuchen. Hier meinte es das Glück leider nicht ganz so gut mit uns und Wir sichteten nur einen Manta weit weg. Dennoch war auch dies ein toller Tauchgang mit Adlerrochen, Stechrochen und Netzmuränen. Der Trip hat sich also offensichtlich gelohnt und Wir machten uns Glücklich auf die Heimreise nach Medhufushi…:D

Our thrilled guests, still “high” on the “manta magic mood”, unanimously decided to do the 2nd dive at the same site. This time however, we weren’t as lucky with only a glimpse of a manta in the distance. Nevertheless other species of rays & innumerable moray eels – including a honeycomb moray, put in an appearance to keep the divers happy. Overall, a successful first full day trip to the south returned to Medhufushi with tired but happy divers on board 😀
