MY Sheena Logbook 06. – 13.10.2019

7-Tage Tour – Male nach Filitheyo

It’s another trip and our sixth for the for Sheena this season. We are starting from Malé (Kaafu Atoll) and heading all the way towards Filitheyo (Faafu Atoll).

During this trip we will be taking beginner divers to visit the following atolls – Kaafu Atoll (north), Kaafu Atoll (south), Felidhe Atoll, Meemu Atoll and ending our trip in Faafu Atoll.

06 Oktober 2019

Today our tour starts with 8 guests on boat 6 from Germany and 2 from Switzerland. They all will be arriving into Malé where we will pick them up from the airport and take them to their home for the next 7 days.

Once arrived on boat they were provided with a welcome drink and a welcome briefing and later shown their cabins which later followed upon with a lunch. After lunch the guests had the opportunity to set up their diving equipment and relax for the rest of the day Later after dessert a general boat briefing about the full boat was given and then we presented to the guests the itinerary we had for the next 7 days. At the end we had a crew introduction where the guests are introduced to the crew which ended with a huge round of applause.

Soon later the guests started to head towards their cabin to get must needed rest and prepare themselves for the next 7 days of adventure.

07 Oktober 2019

As the sun rose over the horizon the guests started gathering up eagerly waiting for their upcoming adventure. Ting Ting and the bell rings for the first dive briefing which is later followed on with a Dhoni briefing and the check dive where the guests could check all their equipment and make sure they are weighted properly. As we were only 8 divers leading the group was Ved.

Dive 1 – Kurumba House reef (Kaafu Atoll North) After the check dive Ved gave a current briefing where he explains how to dive in the current and the difference between a kandu, a thila and a giri

Dive 2 – Kuda Giri (Kaafu Atoll South)
Dive 3 – Guraidhoo Manta Point (Kaafu Atoll South)

Soon we reached the second dive spot Kuda Giri where we dived a shipwreck which was at touching distance from the reef in extremely good condition. The reef was healthy and full of coral with loads of nudibranch around the dive site. For the third dive we visited Guraidhoo Manta Point where we had a manta ray chilling around the cleaning station block for 60min. Beautiful day of diving.

08 Oktober 2019

Dive 4 – Guraidhoo Manta Point (Kaafu Atoll South)

Dive 5 – Ranikan (Kaafu Atoll South)

Dive 6 – Fulidhoo Caves ( Felidhe Atoll)

Today the plan was to do 2 dives in Kaafu Atoll south and then cross towards Felidhe atoll to do 1 dive there and anchor near the island Fulidhoo. Some of the highlights of today’s dives were at Ranikan where we had some massive tunas, a nurse shark hoping not to be spotted and some napoleons. The interesting part about this dive site was it had massive overhangs and beautiful soft coral hanging from it. The last dive at Fulidhoo caves we had some eagle rays which concluded a beautiful day of diving. Later in evening we visited the island of Fulidhoo and relaxed on the beach watching the sunset in the horizon.

09 Oktober 2019

Dive 7 – Fulidhoo Caves (Felidhe Atoll)

Dive 8 – Dhiggiri Reef (Felidhe Atoll)

Dive 9 – Alimatha House Reef (Felidhe Atoll)

Today the plan was to do 3 dives in Felidhe Atoll. Some of today’s highlights were at Fulidhoo caves where the divers encountered a manta ray cruising in the blue, much later some eagle rays join the show and some massive napoleons hoping to get some attention too. For the second dive at Dhiggiri Reef we had some nurse sharks handing under the rocks and at the end of the we had a manta and for the last dive we visited alimatha house reef for the night dive. Where we had schools and schools of nurse sharks so many that it felt like a carnival. Today’s day of diving was just WOW.

10 Oktober 2019

Dive 10 – Alimatha Outreef (Felidhe Atoll)

Dive 11 – Rakeedhoo Corner (Felidhe Atoll)

Dive 12 – Dhiggaru Outreef (Meemu Atoll)

Today the plan was to do 2 dives in Felidhe Atoll and then cross towards Meemu Atoll and do 1dive around the island of Dhiggaru .Some of today’s highlights were at Rakeedhoo Corner where the divers encountered some current, schools of fish like snappers, tunas, some grey reef sharks and at the end of the dive a manta ray. While at Dhiggaru Outreef we had morey eel, an octopus and some massive tunas. Later in the evening the guests visited the island of Dhiggaru where they could stretch their legs. A beautiful day comes to an end.

11 Oktober 2019

Dive 13 – Dhiggaru Caves (Meemu Atoll)

Dive 14 – Happy Corner (Meemu Atoll)

Dive 15 – Fembo House Reef (Meemu Atoll)

Today the plan was to do 3 dives in Meemu Atoll and stay the night at Fembo. Some of the highlights of today’s dives were at happy corner where the divers were taken to experience what it is to dive a channel. During the dive we had grey reef sharks, eagle rays, a turtle, a big school of snappers and some nice incoming current. At the last dive of the day we visited Fembo House reef where at this reef it wouldn’t seem that the we faced an el Nino as the coral at this site was very healthy. Later in the evening the crew had prepared the island of Fembo for the guests where we enjoyed a beautiful BBQ under the moonlight and candles. A beautiful end.

12 Oktober 2019

Dive 16 – Fembo House Reef (Meemu Atoll)

Dive 17 – One Way Ticket (Faafu Atoll)

Today the plan was to do 1 dive in Meemu Atoll and then cross towards Faafu Atoll and do another dive there. Later in the evening we would visit Filitheyo for happy hour and relax. Some of today’s highlights of today’s dives were at Fembo House reef where found a baby octopus swimming around trying to find a special hole to hide. While at One-Way Ticket the guests saw some tunas, octopus and a white mouth morel eel. Good end to the diving part of the adventure. Later in the evening the guests visited the island of Filitheyo where they relaxed and enjoyed some drinks. Once back on boat the guests were sitting up till late sharing stories of life and contact details making promises that they will see each other soon.
