7-Day Trip – Male to Filitheyo

It’s another trip and our third for the Sheena this season. We are starting from Male (Kaafu Atoll) and heading all the way towards Filitheyo (Faafu Atoll).

During this trip we will be visiting the following atolls – Kaafu Atoll (north), Kaafu Atoll (South), Feilidhe Atoll, Meemu Atoll and ending our trip in Faafu Atoll.

11 August 2019

Today our tour starts with 4 guests on boat 2 from Germany and 2 from United Kingdom. They all will be arriving into Male where we will pick them up from the airport and take them to their home for the next 7 days.

Once arrived on boat they were provided with a welcome drink and a welcome briefing and later shown their cabins which later followed upon with a light breakfast. After a little rest the bell rang for the first dive briefing which is later followed on with a Dhoni briefing and the check dive where the guests could check all their equipment and make sure they are weighted properly. As we were only 4 divers Ved was leading the group.

Today the plan was to do 1 dive in Kaafu Atoll North and then do 2 dives in Kaafu Atoll South. The first dive we dived at a place called the Fish Factory where encountered multiple rays, some honeycomb morey eels and loads of trevallys. Then for the second dive we crossed towards Kaafu Atoll South and dived at Kuda Giri where we dived a shipwreck which was touching the reef in extremely good condition and then for the last dive, we went to the Guraidhoo Manta Point but even though the current was outgoing there weren’t any mantas today. But overall a great day of diving.

Dive 12 – Bodu Miyaru Kandu (Felidhe Atoll)

Some of the highlights of today’s dives were at Bodu Miyaru Kandu where the current was a gentle incoming current and we had some grey reef sharks, barracudas, and loads of fish. While at Rakeedhoo Corner we had a strong oceanic current so we decided to hook around the corner and then drift along the faaru where we saw some massive napoleons, a big school of snappers and at the end of the dive we saw a hawksbill turtle heading for the surface for some air. Then we moved the boat towards Vatarru Kandu, Vatarru is a small atoll which is part of the Felidhe Atoll with only one channel we decided to visit this place as there are possibilities to see mantas over here but there weren’t any today. But during the dive we had some massive napoleons and some white tip sharks cruising in the current.

In the evening the crew decided to have a candle light dinner to thank the guests in their way for being with us. What a beautiful day!

Today the plan was to do 3 dives at north of Meemu Atoll. Some of the highlights of today’s dives were at Happy Corner where the divers encountered some grey reef sharks getting their mouths cleaned and a massive school of snappers. While for the third dive at Lucky Reef we had a gentle oceanic current and a small incoming current we decided to cross the channel.

While crossing the channel we saw around 20 – 30 grey reef sharks, some eagle rays, barracudas, snappers and some jack fish. What a dive and great way to end the day…

Dive 18 – Happy Corner (Meemu Atoll)

Crossing – Filitheyo (Faafu Atoll)

Today the plan was to do 1 dive in Happy Corner and then cross towards Filitheyo (Faafu Atoll). On the first dive the current was a small outgoing current so we decided to jump inside the channel and drift towards the corner and hook. On the dive we had eagle rays, barracudas, jacks, snappers, white tip sharks and some grey reef sharks. A perfect dive to end the diving adventure.

Once back the guests washed their equipment and relaxed until evening and then we visited the resort island Filitheyo and had some drinks, cocktails till 7pm and then moved back to the boat for dinner and some drinks and conversations till bed time.
