MY Sheena Logbook – 12. – 19.08.2018

Arrival and departure day!

After all the paperwork is done and all guests have moved into their cabins, we start the first dive of this tour.

12.08.2018

Dive 1 Dolphins Corner

The perfect start for the tour when the current is slightly incoming. We had beautiful schools of sweet lips and a few curious whitetip reef sharks.

13.08.2018

Dive 1 Barakuda Kandu

Dive 2 Western Highlights

Dive 3 White Tip Station

The conditions are good. Incoming current during the first two channel dives. At Baracuda Kandu we have a school with about 15 eagle rays, which glided quietly above us. Fantastic.

Western highlight is again full with shoals of fish and convinces as always with the beautiful reef and the countless soft corals.

At Wight Tip Station we have again perfect conditions today. Just like we love the place, with a strong outgoing current. We can jump right at the beginning of the canal and fly right through it. At the end we work towards the edge of the cave. A large swarm of Barracudas is standing in front of it. We take advantage of the no-decompression time and slowly go back to the corner, where we can observe four large grey reef sharks for about 15 minutes.

14.08.2018

Dive 1 Happy Corner

Dive 2 Rakedhoo Kandu

Dive 3 Grouper

Another great start into the day at Happy Corner. We have an incoming current, which is very advantageous for the spot. We jump in blue water and already have many sharks on the way to the edge. We observe a lot of grey reef sharks and even a silver tip during the whole dive.

On the way to the 2nd dive we can observe many spinner dolphins at the surface, which surpass each other with their jumps.

Rakedhoo Kandu is a highlight especially because of its reef formations and corals. By the way, we observed a five-member Napoleon family grazing on the reef.

The third dive had to be moved to a nearby dive site due to the weather conditions. We haven’t dived this site for a long time. However, the Thila is still very intact and full of hard corals, so we go to surch for macros and are very successful. A very big Manti Shrimp and some nice nudibranches are the yield.

15.08.2018

Dive 1 Rakedhoo Kandu

Dive 2 Golden Wall

Dive 3 Alimatha

Because the guests liked Rakedhoo Kandu so much, we went diving there again the next day. The diving conditions were identical to the day before, unfortunately there were no eagle rays this time. But the Napoleon family was back.

The second dive of the day was pure adrenalin. With strong leaking current we were literally blown through the canal. Golden Wall is full of soft corals and colourful cliffs. During the drift we stop several times to observe the sharks and schools of barracuda. What an experience. Everybody’s super happy.

The night dive at Alimatha convinces as always. We jump in the canal and go directly to the house reef of Alimatha in the sand. As always, we have dozens of nurse sharks and stingrays.

16.08.2018

Dive 1 Miaru Kandu

Dive 2 Fiyaathoshi Thila

Dive 3 13 Eagle rays

What a great beginning! We start our day at Miaru Kandu with a strong outgoing current and during the drift we go a little into the inside of the canal to some overhangs. There is also a manta ray moving directly above us. The strong current forces us back to Faru, where we discover a few sharks directly at an overhang. We decide to stay for a while and wait. There are more and more sharks and then also six eagle rays. Quite surprisingly, the Manta comes by again – 20 minutes of pure cinema!

The second dive can’t quite hold a candle to the first one, but it is very beautiful and relaxing. We have a lot of small stuff and a few whitetip reef sharks.

The third dive of the day at 13 Eagle Rays is again the absolute madness. At a middle inflowing current we go a little before the canal over a sandy surface, through which a huge canyon runs. It takes a moment to digest what’s going on here. About 40 large silvertip sharks are slowly coming up to check us out. We stay as long as we can and due to lack of no-decompression time we are forced to dive shallower and seek protection with the Faru. Here we are greeted by 15 Mobulas.

17.08.2018

Dive 1 Just Like Old Times

Dive 2 Vattaru Kandu

Dive 3 Fenboa Reef

At Just like the old times we have a smooth current, which allows us to calmly cross the canal. We can spot lots of Red Snappers and are excited about a super sweet baby eagle ray, which is very curious.

At Vataru Kandu we have a medium incoming current. We cross the canal and go a little deeper to the beautiful overhangs. We slowly move back to the inside of the canal. There we had two octopuses having fun on the coral, two lion fishes and a very pretty nudibranch.

The night dive at Vattaru convinces everyone with its variety of macros. We find different crabs, nudibranches and a huge sepia.

18.08.2018

Dive 1 Western Highlight

Dive 2 Filitheyo Outside

Unfortunately we are already at the end of our beautiful tour. We start the day at Western Highlight, where we had almost no current. Every guest with camera now has the opportunity to take a few pictures in silence. The colorful coral reef is full of small stuff. Beside all the small stuff we see three big turtles and two stingrays.

The last dive of the tour takes place at Filitheyo Outside with a rather moderate current. The dive is very beautiful and is accompanied by a lot of batfish. We also have some grey reef sharks, an eagle ray and a sleeping nurse shark.
