MY Sheena Logbook 26.08. – 04.09.2018

MY Sheena 10 days trip to the Nord Male Atoll, Rashdoo Atoll, Nord- and Süd Ari Atoll, Vaavu Atoll and Süd Male Atoll

Arrival and departure day at Male Airport. We welcome the guests to the 10-day tour, do the paperwork and let all guests have their cabins occupied. Then we start directly for the first dive.

26.08.2018

Dive 1 Fish Factory

Fish factory is not famous because of its colourful reef but because of its fiche waste which attracts countless moray eels and stingrays.

The guests liked it very much and were able to take beautiful pictures.

Dive 1 Banana Reef

Dive 2 Rasfari

Dive 3 Rasdhoo Madivaru

Banana Reef is a beautiful reef in the Male Atoll through which we can drift relaxed with a light current. Between the big, colorful blocks we find two nurse sharks.

At Rasfari we also make a drift dive. Since the current is quite strong, we went through the channel and made a good distance. On our flight we saw a school with about 30 eagle rays and a lot of white tip reef sharks.

Also Rasdhoo was simply great. Beside the great reef we had a lot of grey reef sharks, a school of eagle rays and two really gigantic Napoleons.

Dive 1 Rasdhoo Madivaru

Dive 2 Bathala Thila

Dive 3 Bathala Maaga Khan Thila

Dive 4 Maya Thila

After another dive at Rasdhoo Madivaru we finally arrive in Bathala again. One of the top dive sites here is the Bathala Thila. A great dive site with a lot of schooling fish and in between circling grey reef sharks and white tip reef sharks.

At Bathala Maaga Khan the sharks stay away due to the easy incoming current. But we had a few big Napoleons eating and we could concentrate on the macro stuff.

The night dive at Maya Thila rocks – lots of sharks and rays looking for food. Fantastic!

29.08.2018

Dive 1 Maya Thila

Dive 2 Fishhead

Dive 3 Mahibadhoo Manta

The night dive at Maya Thila was so enjoyable that we wanted to have a look at the place in daylight. At the big blocks we had a lot of snappers and some sharks also circle around the beautifully overgrown blocks. We also found a giant sepia trying to camouflage itself on a rock.

Fishhead is another highlight in the Ari Atoll. It is a reef rich in fish with countless blue stripe snappers on the reef top.

Mahibadhoo was supposed to bring us manta rays. Unfortunately we had no luck here today. But there were some very nice snails and some scorpionfish.

Dive 1 Hammerhead to Vilamendhoo Thila

Dive 2 Viligili Corner

Dive 3 Vilamendhoo Thila

What a great morning. We start the dive at Hammerhead Point and drift half a kilometer to Vilamendhoo Thila. We saw a lot of fish, some grey and some white tip reef sharks and a big school of eagle rays. We finish the dive with a drift over the beautiful Vilamendhoo Thila and seek shelter in the overhangs.

Vilingili Corner is a special and pretty great dive site. We dived it with medium current and flew to the huge blocks in the middle of the channel. The blocks are beautifully overgrown with gorgonians and full of soft corals. Here we also found 5 nurse sharks and watched a huge swarm of barracudas.

During our 3rd dive of the day at Vilamendhoo Thila we could take it easy. We had almost no current and could concentrate on the reef. We saw a few sharks but today the special snails, the octopus and the thick stonefish are almost more beautiful.

31.08.2018

Dive 1 Lucky Hell

Dive 2 Napoleon Thila und Paradise Rock

Dive 3 Broken Rock

So cool – finally we are able to dive the dive sites around Vilamendhoo again. Almost like the old days!

At Lucky Hell we had a nice drift dive. Besides lots of schooling fish you can also see some grey reef sharks.

We start the 2nd dive at Napoleon Thila and then drift to Paradises Rock. We see a big swarm of red snappers, a few sharks and two really big Napoleons.

The best dive of the day was a drift along Broken Rock. The site offers beautiful overhangs full of soft corals and gorgonians and lots of fish.

01.09.2018

Dive 1 Kuderah Thila

Dive 2 Explorer Dive

Dive 3 Alimatha

Kuderah Thila is a beautiful reef, full of blue stripes and feet. Small but nice!

Our Explorer Dive is special but beautiful! The channel through which we drift is quite deep. But we got to see a school of about 20 mobulas, plus some whitetip reef sharks, some grey and eagle rays. Perfect!

Alimatha is cool as always. As usual the eagle rays and the stingrays and mackerels give us a mega show.

02.09.2018

Dive 1 Uthuru Kandu

Dive 2 Uthuru Kandu

Dive 3 Just like the old times

Uthuru Kandu was so fantastic the first time that the guests wanted to dive there a second time. We had a medium current and lots of grey reef sharks and eagle rays at the overhangs. Absolutely cool! While picking up a manta ray jumped out of the water. What a show! Additionally there was a surprise on the way back to MY Sheena. We could discover dolphins and manta rays. We snorkeled with them straight away.

What a awesome dive at “Just like the old times”. Great overhangs, lots of fish, a few eagle rays and finally a fat bull shark … without words!

03.09.2018

Dive 1 13 Eaglerays

Dive 2 13 Eaglerays

Dive 3 Kandooma Thila

Again we decided to dive a dive site twice. 13 Eaglerays reward us the first time with a huge, about 3 m large grouper and 10 bumphead parrot fish. During the second dive we had the big grouper again, but he quickly disappeared once the 50 big silvertip reef sharks appeared. Awesome!

Kandooma Thila was as always beautiful, a great reef, lots of fish, a few sharks and a total of 3 schools of eagle rays with about 20 animals each.

04.09.2018

Dive 1 Guraidhoo Corner

Dive 2 Kandooma Thila

At Guraidhoo Corner we experienced a beautiful canal dive with medium incoming current. While crossing the channel we saw many grey reef sharks and at the end even a school of Mobulas.

Kandooma Thila is as always a truly great dive with a beautiful reef and lots of fish. Some grey reef sharks and a lot of eagle rays make this last dive of the tour unforgettable. A successful conclusion after a successful tour!
