MY Sheena Logbook 13. – 20.10.2019

7-Day Tour – Filitheyo to Filitheyo (Beginner Tour)

It’s another trip and our sixth for the for Sheena this season. We are starting from Filitheyo (Faafu Atoll) and coming back to towards Filitheyo (Faafu Atoll).

During this trip we will be taking beginner divers to visit the following atolls – Faafu Atoll, Meemu Atoll and ending our trip in Faafu Atoll.

13 Oktober 2019

Today our tour starts with 3 guests on boat all from Germany. They all will be arriving into Filitheyo where we will pick them up from the Filitheyo international airport and take them to their home for the next 7 days.

Once arrived on boat they were provided with a welcome drink and a welcome briefing and later shown their cabins which later followed upon with a lunch. After lunch the guests had the opportunity to set up their diving equipment and relax for the rest of the day.

Later after dessert a general boat briefing about the full boat was given and then we presented to the guests the itinerary we had for the next 7 days. At the end we had a crew introduction where the guests are introduced to the crew which ended with a huge round of applause.

Soon later the guests started to head towards their cabin to get must needed rest and prepare themselves for the next 7 days of adventure.

14 Oktober 2019

As the sun rose over the horizon the guests started gathering up eagerly waiting for their upcoming adventure. Ting Ting and the bell rings for the first dive briefing which is later followed on with a Dhoni briefing and the check dive where the guests could check all their equipment and make sure they are weighted properly. As we were only 3 divers leading the group was Ved.

Dive 1 – One Way Ticket (Faafu Atoll) (Check Dive)

After the check dive the Sheena started its crossing towards Meemu atoll during the crossing Ved gave a current briefing where he explains how to dive in the current and the difference between a kandu, a thila and a giri.

Dive 2 – Lobster Crack (Meemu Atoll)
Dive 3 – Lucky Lobster (Meemu Atoll)

Soon we reached the second dive spot lobster crack where we dived the faaru which had a beautiful reef full of healthy coral during the dive we had some massive size lobsters.

For the third dive we visited a site called lucky lobster where it said by a legend whenever lobsters were tried to be caught, they always escaped due which our divers encountered many lobsters. Beautiful day of diving.

15 Oktober 2019

Dive 4 – Lucky Lobster (Meemu Atoll)
Dive 5 – Medhufushi Thila (Meemu Atoll)
Dive 6 – William’s Reef (Meemu Atoll)

Today the plan was to 1 dive in the west side of Meemu atoll and then cruise towards the East side and do 2 dives there. Some of the highlights of today’s dives were at Medhufushi Thila where the divers encountered some massive tuna’s, loads of anemone and reef fish. At the site the coral was healthy. At William’s reef we had big school of fusiliers which covered the dive site like a blanket, at the site the coral was very healthy it didn’t feel like ever in the Maldives they had faced a El Nino. In the evening for dinned the crew and planned a special dinner surprise for the guests. Beautiful day in paradise.

16 Oktober 2019

Dive 7 – William’s Reef (Meemu Atoll)
Dive 8 – Dhiggaru Outreef (Meemu Atoll)
Dive 9 – Dhiggaru Caves (Meemu Atoll)

Today the plan was to do 1 dive on the west side of Meemu Atoll and then head towards the island of Dhiggaru which is located in the north of Meemu Atoll and do 2 dives there. Some of the highlights of today’s dives were at William reef where the divers had a massive school of fusiliers and some dog tooth tunas. During the dive the visibility as stunning but as we dived down it was raining on the surface, a sound that could be heard even underwater, a new experience for the divers. At Dhiggaru Outreef the divers encountered a nurse shark hiding a overhang hoping not to be spotted and at Dhiggaru Caves the divers saw some massive tunas cruising along in the blue. Good day.

17 Oktober 2019

Dive 10 – Boomerang Thila (Meemu Atoll)
Dive 11 – Happy corner (Meemu Atoll)
Dive 12 – Magic Slope (Meemu Atoll)

Today the plan was to do. 3 dives around the island of Dhiggaru. Some of the highlights of today’s dives were at boomerang Thila where the divers encountered some massive lobsters and loads of anemone. The interring part about this thila is that it looks like a boomerang too.

Then we dived a new site which was told to us by a old fable legend called magic slope. A site which had a gradual slope with loads of green coral and loads of reef fish, during the dive the divers encountered a white tip, a napoleon and a green turtle. Beautiful dive. Later in the evening we visited the island of Dhiggaru to enjoy the sunset in the horizon and to also stretch our legs. Good day.

18 Oktober 2019

Dive 13 – Magic Slope (Meemu Atoll)
Dive 14 – Magic Station (Meemu Atoll)
Dive 15 – White – Tip Station (Meemu Atoll)

Today the plan was to do 3 dives around the island of Dhiggaru as the diving around here gives divers a variety of dive site options and chances for them to learn more. Some of the highlights of today’s dives were at magic station where the divers encountered diving around a corner of a channel. During the dive the divers saw a hawksbill turtle, a green turtle, a nurse shark swimming at the bottom, some massive napoleons and some grey reef sharks. At White Tip Station the divers learned how to cross and dive a channel, which was a completely a new experience for the divers, during the dive the divers encountered some grey reef sharks, napoleons, white-tip’s and a silver tip cruising in the current. 19 Oktober 2019

Dive 16 – White – Tip Station (Meemu Atoll)
Dive 17 – Fembo House Reef (Meemu Atoll)

Today the plan was to do 2 in Meemu Atoll and then cross back towards Faafu Atoll near Filitheyo. Some of the highlights of today’s diving was at White Tip Station where the divers crossed the channel and they encountered an eagle ray cruising high above, some grey reef sharks, a lone silver tip hunting at the channel drop-off, some massive tunas and some jacks. Wow what a dive, For the last dive we visited a dive site Fembo House Reef where the reef is extremely healthy it looked like a coral garden in heaven. Later in the evening the guests visited the island of Filitheyo where they relaxed and enjoyed some drinks.
