Their lovely appearance deceives their bad qualities. crown-of-thorns starfishes are voracious predators that specialize in the consumption of hard coral polyps. As loners, they are relatively harmless if occurring on masse, they can destroy entire coral reefs! Conch, Whelks, napoleons and puffer fishes, are the natural enemies of the crone of thorns. But their stock, especially those of fish are decimated by overfishing and shellfish sale to tourists. Because we noticed an increased number of the crown of thorns on Kandolhudhoo Tila, we started a Clean Up 2-tank trip with our guest. The dive Site got extensively liberated from around 300 of the greedy starfishes by our hardworking divers. Many thanks to all helping hands.
